On February 28th 2011, momentous news was received from the Schools Adjudicator in our case against closure with Gateshead Council. We were informed that we had won our 16 month long battle and Sacred Heart Primary School would continue for many years to come.

Throughout the process the community rallied together, with over 5000 names signing our petition, thousands of letters being sent to MPs, Downing Street, and Councillors. The children produced ‘The Beacon on the Hill’ song on CD and DVD, press and television coverage and numerous banners.

The Parents Action Group would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in this epic battle. Mr Naughton our Head Teacher, Miss White our Acting Head Teacher, The Staff, The Pupils, The Parents and Extended Families, The Parishioners and Local Community, David Coulbeck from Gillas Lane School whose experience and knowledge was invaluable, Andy Arnell for the website design and hosting and Mr Prinn for the banners.

We can all now look forward to a bright future in our "Beacon on the Hill"
